JOURNEY LEVEL APPRENTICE PROGRAM
Fifth Through Eighth Period Apprenticeship
Upon satisfactory completion of the Entry Level Apprenticeship Program or the Journey Level Educational Program or alternatively a qualified journeyman who satisfactorily challenges the first through fourth periods of training, journey level surveyors will proceed to the Journey Level Apprenticeship Program to complete study of the fifth through eighth periods of training. Completion of all requirements of the Journey Level Apprentice Program will provide the individual with a certificate of completion at Chief of Party level issued from the State of California Division of Apprenticeship Standards. Placement of any individual at any level within the NCSJAC program system remains at the discretion of the NCSJAC.
Rules, Regulations and Selection Procedures:
- Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. No maximum age.
- Applicant must be in good health and physically able to perform all phases of the work.
- Applicant must be able to communicate in English orally and in writing, in order to comprehend
written and oral instructions on the job, complete related training classes and to insure personal
and co-worker's safety on the job.
- Applicant must complete all application forms and provide evidence of legal employable status
in the United States of America.
- Applicant must possess a current, valid California driver license. This license is to remain current during the entire term of apprenticeship.
- Applicants for the Journey Level Apprenticeship Program may as a prerequisite be tested for
placement and such testing shall become the requirement of any topic.
- Applicant will purchase necessary workbooks and curricula.
- Each Journey Level Apprentice shall attend required related training classes one night per week.
Attendance credit will only be obtained when the individual arrives on time at the beginning of
the class session and stays for the full length of the class session which is a minimum of three
(3) hours in length. Any individual who arrives late or leaves early will only be given credit for
actual time spent in class. You will be required to make up any shortage of hours.
- Each Journey Level Apprentice will attend related training class sessions 144 hours per year.
Training class hours must be related to topics and missed hours made up. Lack of attendance or
continued progress shall cause dismissal from the program for a one (1) year period.
- If a Journey Level Apprentice is absent from class, they will notify the Administrative Office
in writing of the events which occurred causing the absence. With the exception of military duty
or prolonged medical needs, all absences must be made up prior to graduation.
- Each Journey Level Apprentice shall maintain progress at Related Training Classes as specified
on the Related Training Schedule of each period of training.
Term of Apprenticeship:
Journey Level Chief of Party status will be gained by completion of 8,000 hours of credited on the job work experience, 1,000 of which will be worked as a Party Chief AND the standard multi-media first aid certification.
